Case Study: Curved Wind Walls on a Tahoe Lakefront Estate

Fully curved frameless glass, engineered for lake wind and snow country — the hardest version of the glazier’s craft.

The brief: a stone-and-copper lakefront estate whose decks face the water — and the wind that comes with it. The owners wanted wind protection on the terraces and fall protection at the edges, with one non-negotiable: nothing between the rooms and the lake. No pickets, no posts stealing the view, no frames chopping the horizon.

The result that names our tagline: the lake, clear as day, straight through the railing.

The hard part: curves

Flat frameless railing is demanding work — laminated safety glass to code, anchoring engineered for Sierra wind and snow loads. Curved frameless panels are another tier entirely: each panel is bent to the deck’s radius at fabrication, and there is no frame to hide a sloppy measure. Templates have to be exact, edges finished clean, and the anchoring has to carry code loads through curved glass without a straight edge to bear on.

Railings that disappear

Along the balconies, frameless laminated runs with minimal hardware carry the guard loads while the eye sails through. Copper trim and Tahoe stone meet the glass edge-to-edge — which is why the measuring, not the marketing, is the product.

What it means for your project

Most of our week is windows, showers and mirrors — but they’re measured by the same hands that templated curved glass on the lake. If your project is ambitious (wind walls, big railing runs, curved or oversized panels), we’re one of the few CA-shore shops that has actually delivered it. And if it’s a foggy dual-pane in Meyers — it gets the same tape measure.
